Celtic music from the Netherlands

Put together four musical guys-of-a-certain-age with a great love for authentic celtic Music, as well as a load of humour and sence of perspective and you will get the Dutch folkband "Windbroke"! However different the personalities of these gentlemen may be, the fascination for Celtic music brought them together years ago. Windbroke's history goes as far back as 1995. Since 2013 the band has had its present cast, wich spend lots of time rehearsing and organising gigs, projets and tours.

The music

The characteristic folk music performed by Windbroke finds its origine in these regions that, way before the Roman Empire , were populated by the Celts. When the Romans started building their empire and exterminating the Celts, they left the coastal areas of Europe undisturbed. Thus Celtic influences remained in  Ireland, Scotland, Normandy, northern Spain and Portugal. From these regions the band selects a number of both cheerful and tear-jearking songs, melancholy slow airs and lively dance tunes.. All this together with unespected humouros tales and pieces of information constitutes a performance not easily to be forgotten

Name of the band

"Windbroke" is the name of a tune written by Mike Mc Goldrick for his father who often was quite windbroke (i.e. out of breath) after having played the whistle.  We adopted the name of this tune for our band. Playing the music and singing the songs takes our breath away, litarally speaking. We hope that listening to us will take our audiense's  breath away the figurative sence. We look forward to meeting you and hearing from you if indeed you were listening breathlessly!.

until then,

Windbroke
